In foundry production, it is common for even a high-quality base mix to fail to provide stable performance and the predicted quality of castings. It is in such cases that the use of additional materials comes to the fore. <\/p>\n\n

Basic components of the HTS<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cold-curing mixture (CCM) is a modern technology for making molds, based on the use of quartz sand, binder resins, and catalysts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n
Sand:<\/strong> must have high purity, controlled grain size, and stable physicochemical characteristics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Resins and catalysts:<\/strong> determine the speed and uniformity of curing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
The correct combination of these components allows you to reduce defects, but in practice there are problems: fluctuations in sand quality, humidity, uneven operation of catalysts, increased gas formation, reduced strength at high temperatures, and others.<\/p>\n\n

Additional materials allow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

reduce gas formation and improve the casting surface;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
increase the strength and heat resistance of molds;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
create a non-stick effect;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
optimize the consumption of resins and catalysts;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
stabilize hardening in different temperature conditions;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
connect or repair parts of finished forms;<\/li>\n\n\n\n

adhesives, sealants and putties<\/strong> \u2013 used to assemble complex rods, improve or repair finished forms;<\/li>\n\n\n\n

Exothermic inserts<\/strong> \u2013 designed to extend the metal solidification time to reduce the volume of overfill and compensate for shrinkage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Vents<\/strong> are special ventilation systems that ensure the removal of excess gases when pouring metal into a mold.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

Criteria for selecting auxiliary materials<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When selecting additional materials, the following must be taken into account:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
compatibility with the selected type of HTS;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
type and temperature of the alloy;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
required shape properties (strength, gas permeability, heat resistance);<\/li>\n\n\n\n
technological conditions of production (hardening time, casting complexity);<\/li>\n\n\n\n
results of previous tests in workshop conditions;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
available equipment and production volumes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n
A systematic approach avoids incompatibility and ensures the stability of the technological process. The possible set of additional materials is ultimately determined by the metallurgist and production technologist. <\/p>\n\n
