New horizons of Ukrainian metallurgy 2024: Revival after the crisis

New horizons of Ukrainian metallurgy 2024: Revival after the crisis, , фото 1

In recent years, the metallurgical industry of Ukraine has undergone significant changes. The volume of metal exports grew by 2021, reaching $15.98 billion, which is 77% more than in 2020. However, the war with Russia in 2022 caused a significant drop in export volumes. For example, exports to Southeast Asia and Oceania fell by 10 times, and to Latin America by 8.5 times. Despite these difficulties, in 2023 Ukraine continued to export metal products to almost all continents, although the geography of exports changed significantly due to logistical problems and hostilities.

At the current stage of development of the metallurgical industry of Ukraine (in 2024), several key trends are observed:

Analyzing the current situation and prospects, several key trends should be identified: production recovery, innovative technologies, changes in export geography, growing demand for high-value-added products, and environmental initiatives. Ukrfavorit actively contributes to processes that support these key trends.

1. Resumption of production

After significant losses due to military operations, metallurgical enterprises are striving to restore production. The main efforts are aimed at the reconstruction and modernization of existing facilities.

Ukrfavorit’s contribution to the production recovery processes consists of new turnkey modernization projects that cover all stages — from designing a new foundry to product quality control.

The turnkey modernization project includes:

  • new design of the foundry,
  • support for construction and installation works,
  • commissioning,
  • optimization of the technological process to obtain high-quality castings,
  • product quality control.
2. Innovative technologies

Ukrainian metallurgical companies are actively implementing innovative solutions to increase production efficiency and reduce environmental impact. This includes the use of new methods of production, processing and recycling of metals, as well as the digitalization of production processes.

Innovative technologies refer to new methods of manufacturing, processing and processing of metals, as well as the digitalization of production processes. Our contribution to the implementation of innovative solutions lies in adapting casting materials to the needs and conditions of the customer. Our supplier EUROTEK Research and Development (R&D) department investigates innovative technologies, creating new products or improving existing ones, to help our customers remain competitive in the market.

3. Changes in export geography

Due to the geopolitical situation and logistical difficulties, the structure of Ukrainian metal products exports continues to change. The main markets are shifting from traditional European destinations to new markets in Asia and Africa.

To follow the trends of changes in the geography of exports, “Ukrfavorit” offers services for organizing and placing orders from foreign partners for production at Ukrainian factories. Our company acts as a link between clients from different countries and Ukrainian foundries, ensuring high quality and timely fulfillment of orders.

We are looking for international distributors and traders of foundry products – partners with experience and networks to promote Ukrainian metallurgical products in global markets. This includes companies operating in Europe, Asia, Africa and America, ready to help increase exports of Ukrainian products.

4. Growing demand for high value-added products

High prices for tubular products and other high-value-added goods are contributing to their growing share in exports, helping to offset losses in other segments of the metallurgy industry.

To support this initiative, Ukrfavorit offers ongoing technological support for foundry operations, including:

  1. Consultations for the client’s technical staff (by phone and online via messengers).
  2. Providing consulting assistance in case of various problems related to the production of molds or rods, the operation of equipment for preparing mixtures, the quality of castings and other issues related to the client’s activities.
  3. Providing customers with educational materials on using Ukrfavorit products, including manuals, instructions, video lessons, etc.
  4. Providing telephone or online support during test operations.
5. Environmental initiatives

In the face of global climate change, Ukrainian metallurgical companies are focusing on implementing environmentally friendly technologies. This includes reducing CO2 emissions and switching to alternative energy sources.

To further develop this trend, the company’s owner, Olena Isayeva, participated in the working group for the development of the sectoral sections of the Ukraine Plan, implemented within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program. Together, they developed a four-year strategy for the development of “Green Metallurgy” in Ukraine.

These trends indicate the efforts of the Ukrainian metallurgical industry to adapt to modern challenges and find new opportunities for development.

We invite companies operating in the metallurgical industry to cooperate. Together we can develop innovative solutions and take Ukrainian metallurgy to a new level!
